Two triumphant moments for the Smiffy – first, discovering the Avett Brothers; and then secondly, passing on his learned recommendation to his favourite folk-fan and banjo-fetishist – namely, me.

They’re my new favourite band so I’m very grateful for the tip-off but hate you for getting to see them live when I didn’t. It’s so unfair. You’re a monster, Smith.

They were my gem too brad. Loved ‘em, they had me dancing around at times, yet close to tears at others. Plus the avalon stage is a gorgeous place to be. One of my all time glasto memories. Well done greg!

Fair enough, Monsoir Cox. I don’t want to alienate my only reader. Avett Brothers’ surprisingly good set will be next on my hit list to blog about.

In short, hither-to unknown to me country-folk behemoths deliver heart-wrenching tracks aplenty.

A very nice blog – and that’s a lovely touch about the younglings having a night that will live with them forever – but I think your core audience (i.e. me) isn’t really interested in hearing about self-indulgent rock bands and their seven-minute guitar solos.

How did the Avett Brothers set go, for example?

I’ll have to check out this new jazz-beat combo. They sound like they could be a fusion of rock, and indeed, roll; in a thinly veiled disguise of jazz-beat. Like you say – it’ll never last.

Someone suggested another up and coming band of a similar ilk – the Solling Rones I think they’re called – I wonder if they’re still be playing gigs 50 years hence?

As the sole reader of your fine blog, may I say how much I enjoyed your latest contribution.

It brought to mind a new popular jazz-beat combo that recently came to my atention, a bunch of young Merseysiders going under the unlikely-sounding name of The Beatles. It’s early days yet, but I think they might well catch on.
